Had an amazing 2 night-3 day at Soulitude. Many thanks to Mr. Chandra and Mr. Prithvi Raj for making arrangements for us at the very last minute. Getting there from Delhi is easy–take the overnight train to Kathgodam and take a taxi to the property (1-1.5 hrs). The hotel can arrange for a pick-up (by Nafees or one of his colleagues). Soulitude is a gorgeous property comprising the main house and a separate cottage. The manager was kind enough to take us on a tour of the property to have a look at all the rooms. The rooms are stunning and most have an excellent view. We stayed in Bliss, which had a skylight and a fabulous view of the mountains and the forest—it even had a view from the bathroom. The entire property is amazingly designed and executed with tremendous attention to detail. The wooden floors are dotted with colored tiles, and there are interesting artifacts all around. It was quite cold, but the heated bed, oil heaters and the fireplace made it very comfortable. The food was great. They have a few menus to choose from, which comprise Indian and western food, all of which was equally delicious. It snowed unexpectedly on our second day there, and the staff pampered us with a fire in the common area, hot pakoras and hot water bottles. The staff were absolutely wonderful–Prithvi Raj (the manager), Dinesh, the chef (sorry, cannot remember his name). It was raining/snowing for most of our trip so we only walked to Ramgarh market and back (a combination of mountain and road walk). The samosas at the market were delicious! When you’re not walking or trekking, make use of the library which has many books and games.

We are definitely going back.
