I have been all over India – Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Guwahati, etc., etc., etc.. But hands down my favorite place in the whole country is Soulitude by the Riverside. My family of 3 Americans came to relax after spending time in a crowded Delhi, and we were so impressed with everything and everyone. The staff went out of their way to make accommodations for us to stay even though there was no one else staying on the property at that time. We had the place to ourselves, and they made it feel like home away from home. I had been in India for about 4 months, and my parents came to visit me. The change from the fast pace of the city to the slow serenity of Soulitude was a feeling I will never forget. We visited Soulitude in the Himalayas for 2 days before coming to Riverside. The Himalayas were also amazing, but if we ever come back we will spend all of our time at Riverside.
Before coming we tried to talk our “guide,” Banu, out of taking us because it would be easier for the staff if we didn’t come, but he insisted that we take the trip and told us that it was no problem (you can’t get that kind of hospitality in America).
The food was amazing (though if you think there are other restaurants around think again – you’ll have to eat at their restaurants unless you pack food in your luggage). There are also hikes/treks that you can do starting right from the property (just make sure to ask the staff about them the night before).
Nothing but great things to say about this place. So thankful for the staff’s TLC and whichever genius decided to start such a place.
